I personally feel that harbhajan has disgraced the whole india and our cultural heritage by admitting openly abusing symonds mother. Whether it may be a monkey or man, you in first place has no right to abuse one's mother. Even if u had abused there's no right to openly admit that he has done such a disgraceful thing.

It was better to admit that he racially abused symonds rather than admitting that he abused symonds mother. Its a shame to our mother land to hear that an indian has admitted abusing another person's mother openly. After supporting him thick and nail now i feel cheated, disgraced, shamed, what more...

6 arrested in plot to kill soldiers at Fort Dix

Federal investigators last night arrested six men who were planning a heavily-armed armed attack against soldiers at Fort Dix as part of a jihad against America, according to two law enforcement sources.

The men had conducted surveillance of the Army base and were caught allegedly attempting to purchase AK-47s to carry out their plan, one of the sources said.

The bust came after several of them were lured to a meeting with an arms-seller who turned out to be a secret FBI informant, said both sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the arrests.

The would-be attackers, ethnic Albanians who had been under surveillance by the FBI for months, practiced by shooting paintball guns and real weapons in a rural area of the Poconos, one source said. They also allegedly watched jihadist videos in which Osama bin Laden urged them toward martyrdom.

"They were prepared to die," said the law enforcement source. "We became increasingly convinced this was for real and these guys were ready to roll."

The FBI had the group under surveillance for more than a year, the source said. The men had scouted out Dover Air Force Base and Fort Monmouth before settling on Fort Dix, a base that is used to mobilize troops to Iraq, said the source.

Sarkozy wins!

Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy has won his bid to become the new president of France, partial election returns indicated Sunday.

The BBC reported Sarkozy had 53 percent of the vote, while Socialist Segolene Royal had 47 percent. The turnout was estimated at 85.5 percent, the highest for a French election in decades.

"I love France," Sarkozy said in claiming victory. "I love France and just as one loves someone who is very close to one."

Royal said she gave her campaign "all my efforts," and told her supporters "something has risen up that will not stop."

Sarkozy advocated a tough line on immigration and law and order, while Royal supported raising the minimum wage and creating subsidized jobs for young people.

Twister Sweeps Kansas town.

A half-mile wide tornado swept Greensburg, Kansas, causing heavy damage and injuring dozens of residents.

The entire town was pretty much wiped out.

A search team from Sedgewick, Kansas, that specializes in rescues from collapsed buildings was called in to help, she said.

About 70 percent of Greensburg was either destroyed or heavily damaged.

At least 40 people who were injured by the storm in Greensburg were driven 50 miles east to Pratt Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to spokeswoman Kim Stivers.

The American Red Cross was using school and charter buses to transport hundreds of Greensburg residents.

The National Weather Service reported a tornado struck Greensburg at about 9:30 p.m. Friday. Greensburg has a population of fewer than 2,000 people.

Paris Hilton was arrested in Hollywood early Thursday and charged with driving under the influence.

Officers noticed Paris driving her Mercedes McLaren SLR erratically at 12:31 AM and stopped her. They believed she exhibited signs of intoxication. We're told they administered a field sobriety test, and Paris blew a .08. In California, driving with a .08 blood alcohol level is the minimum level for DUI.

Paris was arrested and taken to the LAPD Hollywood division, where she was booked. The officers who stopped the car did not know it was Paris Hilton until they approached the vehicle on foot. Police sources say she was cooperative. Paris had a passenger in the car -- Kimberly Stewart, Rod Stewart's daughter.

'Spider-Man 3' hit first day!

The movie doesn't even open in North America until Friday, but that hasn't stopped "Spider-Man 3" from breaking a few records overseas. Plus it'll be opening in a record number of N.A. theaters, too. The second Spidey sequel also opened in France, Germany and Italy on Tuesday; Australia, Russia and China get it on Thursday; folks in Canada, India, the UK and the US must wait till Friday. Well, midnight Thursday, anyway.

Bush vetoes war-funding bill

Four years to the day after standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier and declaring "major combat operations" in Iraq were over, President Bush on Tuesday vetoed a war-spending bill that calls for the start of a withdrawal of American combat troops from the conflict.

"It makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing. All the terrorists would have to do is mark their calendars. ... Setting a deadline for withdrawal is setting a date for failure, and that would be irresponsible," Bush said in a televised address after the veto.

"I recognize that many Democrats saw this bill as an opportunity to make a political statement about their opposition to the war," Bush said. "They've sent their message, and now it is time to put politics behind us and support our troops with the funds they need."

"A veto means denying our troops the resources and the strategy they need," Reid said earlier in the day. "After more than four years of a failed policy, it's time for Iraq to take responsibility for its own future."

The spending bill, which Congress passed last week, funds military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, but it also calls for the withdrawal of U.S. troops beginning in October, with the goal of getting all U.S. combat forces out of Iraq by the end of March 2008.

Final 'Harry Potter' cover revealed

According to the actor Jim Dale, the voice of Harry Potter on audio books, J. K. Rowling's seventh novel will be the end of Harry Potter. In a blunt interview, Dale told the New York Post that Rowling has "lived with Harry Potter so long she really wants to kill him off."

Such shocking claims have also been echoed by Harry Potter film star Daniel Radcliffe. Although more cautious and discreet than the brash Jim Dale, Daniel Radcliffe has made the following on-the-record statement, "It’s dangerous to say: ‘Daniel thinks Harry might die.’ But I do maintain there is a possibility he could be killed in the final book."

Rowling has said only that the seventh Harry Potter book will be the last. But she has not dispelled fears that Harry will not outlast the final novel, commenting rather darkly, "You have to wait and see whether he survives to be a grown-up."

At a reading, Rowling was asked: "Will we get a glimpse of Harry and Hermione's lives at the end of the last book?" Her response began ominously: "Assuming everyone survives." Then, with something bordering on diabolical glee, she continued, "I may kill the whole lot."

Rowling clearly relishes teasing Harry Potter fans about what many feel is hardly a laughing matter. One thing is certain: between now and the publication of the seventh novel—which will be released on July 21, 2007—there will be heated debates and wild speculation about Harry and his friends' ultimate fate.

A Friday occurring on the 13Th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in English, German, Polish and Portuguese-speaking cultures around the globe. Similar superstitions exist in some other traditions. In Greece or Spain, for example, Tuesday the 13Th takes the same role. The fear of Friday the 13Th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia (a word that is derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Παρασκευή, δεκατρείς, and φοβία, meaning Friday, thirteen, and phobia respectively.

Before the 19Th century, though the number 13 was considered unlucky, and Friday was considered unlucky, there was no link between them. The first documented mention of a "Friday the 13Th" is generally listed as occurring in the early 1900s.

However, documentation aside, many popular stories exist about the origin of the concept:

The Last Supper, with stories that Judas was the thirteenth guest, and that the Crucifixion of Jesus occurred Friday.
That the biblical Eve offered the fruit to Adam on a Friday, and that the slaying of Abel happened on a Friday (though the Bible does not identify the days of the week when these events occurred).
That it started on Friday, October 13, 1307, the date that many Knights Templar were simultaneously arrested in France, by agents of King Philip IV.

However, historically, there is no true date that the Friday the 13Th superstition can be linked to.

Many modern stories (including The Da Vinci Code) claim that when King Philip IV had many Templars simultaneously arrested on October 13, 1307, that started the legend of the unlucky Friday the 13Th. However, closer examination shows that though the number 13 was indeed considered historically unlucky, the actual association of Friday and 13 seems to be an invention from the early 1900s.

In the case of Greece, Tuesday, April 13, 1204 was the date that Constantinople was sacked by the crusaders of the fourth crusade. The first ever fall of the then richest Christian city, and the looting that followed, allegedly gave Tuesday 13 its bad meaning. Ironically enough, Constantinople fell for the second time in its history on Tuesday, May 29, 1453, to the Ottoman Turks, a date that puts an end to the Byzantine empire, and to Greek sovereignty for several centuries, and therefore reinforcing Tuesday as an unlucky day in the Greek world.

hey...i have a question about the tara rum pum contest.

Is it fair to air the program with saif ali khan, who divorced his wife and left his kids.
I trust in the ndtv structure and believe that ndtv will stand for truth always rather than airing such a good contest with a person (saif) who doesnt deserve to be the lead in the contest. I dont understand what the producer of this contest is thinking when he decided to air a FAMILY program which highlights the unity of a family with saif who plunged his family. Though the producer will rake in some good money, but there is a morale for making money especially for a mass media like ndtv, which i trust always.
